NEW ENGLISH-CZECH DICTIONARY

A new 1200 page English-Czech dictionary, the work of lexicographer Dr Josef Fronek of the Department of Slavonic Languages and Literatures, Glasgow University is available from bookshops in the Czech Republic and/or directly from the publishers, LEDA, telephone number: 00 422 - 436568. The work is the first English-Czech dictionary ever to use the English language in order to define the various shades of meaning in the English headword. There is also a wide range of examples. The dictionary is a vital instrument for any English learner of Czech.

In September 1996, the Dictionary was awarded a Second Prize in the category of bi-lingual dictionaries by the Czech Translators' Association.

Dr Fronek is also co-author of an audiovisual course of the Czech Languge, Mluvte s nami cesky, co-produced by Glasgow and Olomouc universities. The course is obtainable from Glasgow University, further information at jf@lang.gla.ac.uk

V zari 1996 udelila slovniku Josefa Fronka druhou cenu v kategorii dvojjazycnych slovniku ceska Obec prekladatelu.
