Postgraduate Research Degrees
The French section at Glasgow is one of the largest in the UK and offers a
broad spectrum of expertise and supervision from the Middle Ages to the contemporary period,
on poetry, the novel, theatre and performance studies,
Quebec studies, language studies, cultural studies, theory and thought, and visual cultures including
emblems, fine art and cinema. There is a lively research culture, with regular seminars and visiting speakers.
For details of staff research interests click here. The French Section is currently able to offer considerable
support to postgraduate students for conference attendance and research trips both home and abroad.
The city of Glasgow, European City of Culture in 1990, is an exciting place to live and spend time, and the
University library offers outstanding facilities and resources.
Conferences and Events
The section hosts conferences on a regular basis,
including the 2003 Montreal-Glasgow conference, not to mention
postgraduate events such as 'Les Usages du genre'. We will also be holding a
postgraduate conference sponsored by the Modern Languages Training Network in June 2007, details to be posted shortly.
Projects
The Section is involved in various funded projects and initiatives.
The Centre for Emblem Studies has recently completed its three-year digitisation project, the website for which
